Microaggressions can occur in any situation, but it’s rare to find information that addresses microaggressions in the nonprofit workplace.
The words or behaviors that deliberately or inadvertently, exclude, confuse, hurt, or harm diverse people can be particularly derogatory in the nonprofit. It is possible that the person stating a microaggression might not recognize the hurt or harm it can create. Yet, their words or behaviors can make people feel devalued, excluded, insulted, or even harmed.
In the nonprofit, there are many levels of people to consider in various interactions that differ from the profit business. For instance, there are the various levels of employees as well as board members, donors, volunteers, and the clients.
